a moment of silence for the seven women who died today, whose lives will not be celebrated and deaths will not be grieved like they deserve because we will be too busy pitying the white man who murdered them and inventing excuses for his behavior like “maybe he had a mental illness”
I know this is a touchy subject, but please bare with me.
Not all of the victims were women. Rodger stabbed his three male roommates to death before he went on his drive by rampage. He did kill two women from what I’m reading —22 y/o Katie Cooper and 19 y/o Veronika Weiss— but his final victim was also a man, Christopher Martinez. There’s a video of his dad talking about his tragic death, if that’s anymore proof.
So you are wrong in saying that there were 7 women killed, there were 2. Their deaths are still horrible and we should still honor them, but they are just as important to the world around them as their male counterparts.
And the media…the media is the media and feeds the people what they want to know: why? Why did a 22 y/o do this? How could anyone do this? They are not “inventing excuses” by telling the people that he had a mental illness, they are trying to explain why this happened. Should they be focusing on the victims? Yes. But they get more viewers by talking about why it happened. Normal people don’t go off on rampages, they just don’t. They’re not making excuses by saying he was mentally ill. They are reporting the news.
Please go through and double-check things before posting them, thank you.
